Outside of Inspire

I’ve always played sports since I was a kid, something about the drive to push your body to the max limits and the competitive nature of it. I’ve been fortunate enough to play at the elite level over the years and across multiple sports. This winter season you’ll find me playing AFL at Aspley Hornets in the State League Comp.

Besides playing sports, in my spare time I enjoy being able to go on adventures whether it be chasing waterfalls around Queensland or heading up the Sunny Coast to attempt to catch some waves. Often I will bring my drone and have some decent wipe out footage to laugh at after.

Why did you join Inspire?

I joined because of their culture, young energy and work-life balance. Not many working environments offer what inspire does, and it’s lived up to the expectations of those around it. Inspire truly has an amazing culture, with those of similar age backgrounds who you can have a laugh and a joke with throughout the day.

Fun fact about you that we dont know

I spent most of my childhood growing up on a cattle and sheep farm in the Northern parts of Victoria. Some of my best memories are being able to ride around on quad bikes, mountain bikes, driving utes, and being able to head out fishing whenever you want. Although, if you think chickens are friendly, you are wrong, those two legged creatures are very quick to attack you at full speed with no warning – just a friendly note.

What are some books and movies you recommend?

One movie that I would highly recommend is “Moneyball”, based on a true story. It specifically focuses on a new methodology of how performance statistics can be implemented in sports to analyse teams and players. Furthermore, the clash between the new methodology versus old methodology, in which way is best for the team and future of the MBL club.

Megan Rapineo’s book “one life” is another I would recommend. It looks at the career of a female football (Soccer) player. The obstacles female athletes face and have to overcome throughout their careers. Additionally the injuries faced throughout soccer and how to bounce back to perform on the World Cup stage.

Which Sustainable Development Goal(s) do you choose and why?

Women across the world are still seen as second class citizens or less, look at the current pay gap within Australian society. I believe that it’s time we work towards bridging the gap to create gender equality around the world for women, because right now we are 239 year’s away from hitting any gender equality targets.
