I’ve just started at Inspire and so far, the experience has been eye-opening. It’s so different from every other place I’ve worked at. I love the work that I do and I really feel like I’m making a difference in clients’ lives. I’ve found that all the accountants here have so much pride in their work. The accountants here are especially proactive, which I think is a very modern approach contrary to conventional accounting firms.
I think mainly solving problems, taking 1 step ahead and planning the future for clients is what I’m most excited about. I feel that my purpose is to make life changing differences in others’ lives. In the short time I’ve been here, hearing from a client that I’ve really helped them is so gratifying and gives me the impression that the work I’m doing is worthwhile.
Outside of Inspire
I enjoy hanging out with friends, and we really enjoy board games. When we have dinner and play some competitive board games, the atmosphere is so thrilling. As I moved here 5 years ago, my whole family is back in India. My only relative in Australia is my uncle so I cherish our moments together. I try my best to see him monthly; and internally, it’s comforting to know that he’s there to support me.
What is your favourite thing about working at Inspire?
The work culture and the type of work I’m doing every single day. I like how we’re not just colleagues, we’re friends. It’s a safe space, you can really speak your mind. We’re all from super different backgrounds and different stories and values, we’re very similar in helping out and wanting to make a difference. I like how involved i am in the clients’ businesses and it makes me feel apart of a bigger picture.
How did you get interested in accounting?
Accounting is something that always attracted me in school. I Opted for commerce in school at 15 and found that I really enjoyed the accounting side of it. I’m so calculative and was always analysing. When i did my bachelors. Wanted to look into the holistic side of it. Started in economics and realised i liked the idea more than the implementation. Liked accounting side of it more. and transitioned in accounting and information systems.
What is one of the biggest impacts you’ve made?
I think just taking the load off my team members and really trying to extend my hand. I feel like my team members think that I’m a great fit for the role as I’ve bonded so well with them and have taken a lot off their plates. I have devoted all my efforts to my work and consistently ensure that my work is quality. By being effective and efficient, I am able to contribute more of my time to the team which conversely gives my seniors more breathing room to produce better results.
What are some book you recommend?
I’ve been enjoying reading a book called ‘Emotional Intelligence’ by Daniel Goleman. It has been super insightful for me with regards to the motivations behind actions and feelings.
Which Sustainable Development Goal(s) do you choose and why?
My choices would be reduced inequality, peace and justice and strong institutions. I know that we can’t attain 100% equality in any spectrum of life, but we can always try to be better. I also feel that it is necessary that everyone deserves a fair chance with reduced inequality in life. Society suffers from failed systems.
