I’ve been part of the Inspire team for six months now as an Undergraduate Accountant, and it’s been an exciting journey so far! Before joining Inspire, I worked with smaller accounting firms where I gained a wealth of knowledge about accounting for businesses. Thanks to this experience, I’ve become well-versed in tax planning, as well as other tax avoidance strategies, beyond just tax evasion.
What really gets me excited about my job is the feeling of making a real impact on business owners. Knowing that my efforts have resulted in savings of X amount of dollars in taxes is truly fulfilling. It’s great to know that I’m making a tangible difference in the lives of our clients.
Outside of Inspire
Between work and studies, I don’t have a lot of free time for leisure activities, but I try to make the most of what I do have. Two activities that I really enjoy are chess and netball.
When I do manage to find some spare time (which isn’t very often!), I like to indulge in one of my favourite hobbies – playing poker. It’s a great way to unwind and take a break from the daily grind.
How did you get interested in accounting?
Accountancy runs in my family, with my mother being an accountant. Consequently, I have always been inclined towards this profession. I got my start at my uncle’s accounting firm, where I was offered a position. Since then, I have progressed to my current position at Inspire. Thus, my interest in accounting can be attributed to my family background.
What is your favourite thing about working at inspire?
Both the people and the culture.
What is one of the biggest impacts you’ve made?
My work involves close collaboration with Reggie, who often expresses how challenging it is for him when I am absent for my part-time days. However, he greatly values my presence and contributions when I work full-time. I find satisfaction in supporting Reggie in managing the workload.
What are some books you recommend?
The Stormlight Archives by Brandon Sanderson is an incredible book series and happens to be my all-time favourite. Its well-crafted storytelling and intricate world-building make it an excellent read. I especially appreciate the vivid imagination behind the story, which adds a touch of fantasy to the narrative.
Which Sustainable Development Goal(s) do you choose and why?
I believe that Quality Education is an essential cause to support because it provides opportunities for people to learn and grow to their fullest potential. Learning is a fundamental aspect of our lives, and I place great importance on it. Everyone should have access to quality education, and I am committed to promoting this cause.
I would also choose Industry Innovation and Infrastructure as another critical sustainable development goal. Innovation is the key driver in this area, and I believe it is essential to improve people’s well-being, health, technology, and efficiency in general. Witnessing the creation of something new through innovation is amazing, and I consider it a crucial factor in our current progress compared to where we were 2000 years ago. This progress is built on the foundation of quality education and innovation.
