Chapter One: You Have The Power to Change Stuff

Chapter One:  You Have The Power to Change Stuff

Build an Inspiring Book List with Harvee Pene (Partner & Business Advisor at Inspire CA) as he undertakes his 2016 Challenge:  Read (implement & review) a Book a Week.

CHAPTER ONE is the story of one of my favourite brands, Thankyou.

A social enterprise that gives 100% of its profits to fund life-changing water, food and hygiene and sanitation programs around the world.

Thankyou was started back in 2008 by a group of university students with zero business experience and zero funding.

I first came across Thankyou when I saw it’s co-founder, Daniel Flynn speak at TEDxBrisbane.

It’s one of the BEST TED videos to watch as you won’t believe the tenacity of these (then) 3 young uni students trying to make a difference in the world.

This book will inspire you to challenge your thinking, to dream big, and to make your ideas a reality.

I watched these guys pull off the most incredible campaign’s I’ve ever seen, trying to get their range of game changing products into Coles and Woolworths.

But what AMAZES me most is that at the same time the 3 founders were either still at uni or working multiple jobs trying to make ends meet, while donating 3 years of their time energy and money into making the Thankyou dream a reality.

Truly inspirational.

Reading this book has made me question what role I can play in making a difference in the world.

The key takeaway from is that each and every one of us has the power to change stuff.

If the story behind Thankyou is not enough, what’s really cool is this idea of #fundthebookfundthefuture.

The book is part of a campaign, which is kinda like crowdfunding with a different twist, by PAYING WHAT YOU WANT for Chapter One and funding the future of Thankyou.

Here’s the famous video that’s received 420,000 views on facebook

The second we saw this video, we bought 100 books for the people in our lives that had made an impact and we booked flights to melbourne to meet Daniel and the team and help pack boxes.
